COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will introduce basic athletic injury care and prevention. Concepts in nutrition, conditioning, advanced first aid, CPR, and basic exercise physiology will also be covered. The class will be lab oriented with an emphasis on skill learning. This course is for elective credit only.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Designed to improve athletic performance for students that participate in competitive sports. The strength and conditioning program followed in this course will improve muscular strength, explosiveness, agility, coordination, balance, and reduce the risk of injury. Accountability, responsibility, work-ethic, intensity, and developing a championship culture will be instructional points of emphasis in this course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class is designed to promote lifetime sport and recreational/fitness activities. Activities will include by not be limited to: team sports, dual sport activities, individual sports, strength and conditioning, and cardiovascular fitness. Students will be graded on pre- and post- physical assessments, written assessments, group projects, and daily participation.

Prerequisite: Must have successfully completed one semester of Physical Education I, II, and Health. Students must have strong swimming skills by the end of the semester - must be able to complete skill tests such as swimming 300 yd. (12 lengths of the pool) in a continuous swim, tread water without hands for 2 minutes. Must be able to swim 20 yds, dive for 10 lb brick in 7' water, then swim back to start all under 1:40. These skills must be completed successfully by the end of the course. Should have a strong desire to become certified in Lifeguarding.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Must be 15 years of age by the end of the course. The Lifeguarding course is an in depth American Red Cross study with both classroom and water requirements of lifeguarding skills and an extensive conditioning program. Students will become more experienced and confident in an aquatic environment. Students must obtain at least an 80% on all written and skill tests to become certified. At the completion of the course, if all American Red Cross requirements are met, the student will have two certifications; Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Health and Physical Education I, II, are required one semester each that may be taken at any time during the course of the high school career. PE I: ATHLETIC WEIGHTS is an alternative to PE I. During this time students will experience the connection between health and physical education, and enjoy an optimal quality of life through appreciation of and participation in an active, healthy lifestyle. Our program will emphasize health-related fitness and develop the skills and habits necessary for a lifetime of activity. Ongoing assessments are included in both written and performance based skill evaluation. The classroom portion of our program provides the basis for continued methods of developing knowledge, concepts, skills, behaviors, and attitudes related to student health and well-being. Skill development and application of rules and strategies will be developed throughout the fitness portion of our program. As students continue in the program they will have the opportunities to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness and increase their knowledge of fitness concepts.

Prerequisites: Lifeguard certification (or instructor approval); Be at least 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled lesson of the course; Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling); Tread water for 1 minute; Demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills:
Swim the following strokes with the performance on a Level 4 in the program
Front crawl - 25 yards
Back crawl - 25 yards
Breaststroke - 25 yards
Elementary backstroke - 25 yards
Sidestroke - 25 yards
Butterfly - 25 yards
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This goal of this course is to train students to teach courses following the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program. They will learn to develop a course lesson plan, how to conduct training sessions, and how to evaluate participants’ progress. Students must obtain at least an 80% on all written and skill tests to become certified. At the completion of the course, if all American Red Cross requirements are met, the student will have certification as a Water Safety Instructor.
