Joyce Sample is the English Department Head at CHS. After teaching for a few years at TAMUC, she also joined the CISD team. This will be her fourth year at Commerce High School. She holds an Associate's of Science in Psychology, a Bachelor's of Science in Instructional Training & Design, a Master's of Science in Applied Linguistics, and is in progress on a dissertation for her PhD in English Composition and Rhetoric Studies which she plans to finish in 2021. She loves to teach writing, helping students find a confident voice in personal narrative and academic writing. She is a published co-editor of the text book which is taught at TAMUC in the first year writing program and here at CHS in the dual credit courses of ENG 1301 and 1302 as well as the current vice-president of SEGAD @ TAMUC.
Mrs. Sample teaches Senior English and Dual Credit English courses which holds some options. Seniors can take English 4, College Prep English, College/Academic Writing, ENG 1301/1302 (Comp/Rhet/Research), and ENG 2326 (Intro to Literature). These last two are dual credit and open to other grade levels as part of the Pride Prep or Dual Credit program with advisor approval and successful TSI scores.
Serving as a campus iCoach, Mrs. Sample helps other teachers and students on the CHS campus to integrate technology and innovative curriculum ideas into their world.
