First day of school Aug 11 ----- B day roster report on Tues/Thurs. A day roster on Wed/Fri for Aug 11-14.
Paul Clark teaches English 1, Pre-AP English 1, and Journalism. He is currently in his sixth year of teaching at Commerce High School. He graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 2010, and holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in English, with a minor in education from The University of Texas at Austin. He enjoys reading with students, analyzing the nuances in literature in order to find deeper meanings that are hidden between the lines.
Mr. Clark teaches English 1, which is designed for freshman students. However, students who are seeking a more challenging English and Language Arts curriculum may take Pre-AP English 1 instead. Pre-AP English is a GPA-weighted course. Both on-level and Pre-AP English 1 courses focus on understanding and analyzing all sorts of literature (novels, short stories, poems, plays, and non-fiction articles), as well as writing expository (explanatory) essays on all sorts of topics.
Mr. Clark also teaches the Yearbook class and sponsors that activity.
The CHS Game Club meets once a week in Mr. Clark’s room to play card and board games. Anyone who attends CHS is welcome to join the Game Club.
UIL Debate and Speaking events are sponsored by Mr. Clark. Students can compete in Cross-Examination Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Persuasive Speaking events.
