High School Counselors... We do A LOT more than schedule classes!!
Generally speaking, high school counselors help students develop the academic and social skills needed to succeed in school—and later in life. This includes assisting students in making academic and career plans- but there may be more to that than you think! Helping teens overcome barriers to success is where counselors spend much of their time. They may work one-on-one with students experiencing personal problems, help to identify interventions for academic issues or collaborate with other student support staff to address attendance or behavior concerns. High school counselors also work on a larger scale by conducting classroom guidance, parent meetings and staff trainings on a variety of topics.

As professional school counselors, we strive to follow the American School Counselor (ASCA) framework. This can be a challenge! We are also tasked with testing, scheduling and other administrative duties that are not part of this framework, but each day, we work hard to maintain our school counselor mission!
