Let’s take a look at how we use the prepositions of time
At – We use it for:
•Times 👉 at 8pm 👉 at midnight 👉 at 6:30
•Holiday Periods 👉 at Christmas 👉 at Easter
•At night
•At the weekend
•At lunchtime, at dinner time, at breakfast time
On – We use it for:
•Days 👉 on Monday 👉 on my birthday 👉 on Christmas Day
•Days + morning/afternoon/evening/night 👉 on Tuesday morning
•Dates 👉 on the 20th of June
In – We use it for:
•Years 👉 in 1992 👉 in 2006
•Months 👉 in December 👉 in June
•Decades 👉 in the sixties 👉 in the 1790s
•Centuries 👉 in the 19th century
•Seasons 👉 in winter 👉 in summer
•In the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening
By – means “before a specific time”. An event must happen before a specific time is reached
👉 Please send me the report by Tuesday (I must receive it before Tuesday. The deadline is Tuesday)
👉 Jane would like to lose 3 kg by June (She would like to lose 3kg before June)
👉 The movie should be finished by 8pm (The movie should end before 8pm)
