Sometimes, to add emphasis to the sentence we invert the subject/verb order of the condition clause and remove IF. Let’s see some examples:
•1st conditional (we remove if and we begin with should)
👉 If I go to school, I’ll learn a lot → Should I go to school, I’ll learn a lot
👉 If she stops studying, she will fail the exams → Should she stop studying, she’ll fail the exams
•2nd conditional (we remove if and we begin with were)
👉 If she spoke Japanese, she would have a very good job → Were she to speak Japanese, she would have a very good job
👉 If they were rich, they would have a bigger house → Were they to be rich, they would have a bigger house
•3rd conditional (we remove if and begin with had)
👉 If she had known you were there, she would have told me → Had she known you were there, she would have told me
👉 If the police had caught the thief, they would have been very happy → Had the police caught the thief, they would have been very happy
