To communicate and respond effectively in the four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
To develop knowledge and understanding of countries and communities where French is spoken.
To provide a sound foundation for further study and practical use of French and to develop the skills necessary to learn a new language.
The three broad themes are:
Theme 1: People and lifestyle
Topic 1: Identity and relationships with others
Topic 2: Healthy living and lifestyle
Topic 3: Education and work
Theme 2: Popular culture
Topic 1: Free-time activities
Topic 2: Customs, festivals and celebrations
Topic 3: Celebrity culture
Theme 3: Communication and the world around us
Topic 1: Travel and tourism, including places of interest
Topic 2: Media and technology
Topic 3: The environment and where people live
This is a linear qualification in which all assessments must be taken at the end of the course.
Paper 1: Listening: 45 minutes, listening comprehension and dictation
Paper 2: Speaking: 12 mins , role play, reading aloud, discussion of a photocard
Paper 3: Reading: 45 minutes, reading comprehension and translation from French to English
Paper 4 : Writing; 75 minutes, extended writing and translation from English to French
