The MFL curriculum is designed to instill a love of learning about other cultures and an appreciation of the francophone world. It aims to build resilience in learning something completely new and act as a leveller where all students are joining at a similar level of knowledge. We want to open the student’s minds
Students will be following a programme of study that introduces them to the basics of the French language through topics that they can relate to their daily life. The focus is on enjoyment and communication and the course is designed to compliment our focus on building confidence with speaking.
Students will be taught key vocabulary and phrases around topics such as:
● Colours
● Numbers
● Weather
● Themselves and their families
● Parts of the body
● Likes and dislikes
● Food
● Travel
● Hobbies and sports
● Acquire learning strategies for memorisation and retrieval
● Develop skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing
● Have a deeper understanding of cultural differences and similarities
The Cleeve Meadow is designed to echo the curriculum within a KS3 mainstream setting. Topics are however introduced at a slower pace, with plenty of opportunities to practice and review through games, quizzes and role play. The focus is on fun and learning the language through using ICT, songs, videos and a range of reading materials.
Role play and activities can also be used to enhance student communication skills in general such as, tasking and answering of questions, communicating information about your likes and dislikes, practicing community activities such as shopping, taking part in sports, or meeting and greeting contributing to oracy development.
The aim of the curriculum is to work towards certification in Year 9 through AQA certification.
Lessons will provide opportunities to assess against the requirements of the AQA unit award scheme.
Students will self-assess progress using the AQA summary sheet.
Students will work towards and achieve entry level qualifications 1-3
