Curriculum Intent

At Cleeve Meadow, we are committed to raising the standards of numeracy for all our students, so that they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to make sense of the world around them and to increase their confidence and competence to apply these skills effectively in their lives. We aim to achieve this by planning opportunities for students to develop their fluency skills through regular practice solving problems and applying learnt skills to real life situations.

KS3

Students arrive at Cleeve Meadows in Year 7 - where they are baselined over the Autumn Term, using Renaissance Star Maths Test and teacher assessment, to identify their current level of understanding and areas of focus. They are given a Cleeve Meadow Level (A - Z) with the expectation, on average, for 2 levels of progress within an academic year.

KS4

At Cleeve Meadow, we have a strong maths offer that is differentiated to the ability of the learner; based on skills criteria, from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2 Number & Measure.

This scaffolded approach allows us to provide a dynamic platform for many of our learners, who either have gaps in their knowledge or are working at a level lower or higher than their chronological age. Students work towards clear, attainable and sequential objectives whilst being given the opportunity to progress at the pace that is appropriate to them.

For those who are able to, or whose future paths are suited to such qualifications, a formal GCSE Maths qualification can be obtained.  There is a focus on ensuring our students attain the skills necessary to cope confidently with the demands of further education, employment and adult life.

KS5

This year, we were excited to extend our Maths Curriculum to our KS5 learners. Students achieved their Entry Level 1, 2 or 3 Certificates last year, and we welcomed them back to KS5 to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the key areas of mathematics - that will further develop their confidence in applying mathematics to daily adult life. Over the two years, we aim for our learners to further develop their knowledge and understanding of how to apply mathematics into their daily lives. They will also have the opportunity to sit their next Entry Level or Level 1 Award in Number and Measure.
