Design & Technology

Curriculum Intent

Design technology provides an important foundation for learning about the made

world and the relationship we have with objects within it. There are three core activities that learners should be engaging with in D&T:

  • Activities which involve investigating and evaluating existing products

  • Focused tasks in which learners develop particular aspects of knowledge and skills

  • Designing and making activities in which learners design and make 'something' for 'somebody' for 'some purpose’

The subject should allow learners to experiment with creativity, innovation, make design decisions and solve problems for a user and/or group of people within society. Learners will be given the opportunity to build their skills in the D&T workshop, build confidence in electronic systems and be creative with textiles prints and sewing.
