We have spent the last two days preparing the final papers on everything we have been through during the last few days. To do this, we have divided into four teams that will address the different topics. Sustainability, participation and inclusion (this topic will be prepared by 2 teams).
Before that, we all went down to the basement where the parking for bikes and scooters is located. They have everything including a small space where they can repair and inflate their bikes. A novelty this year is that they also have a space on the wall for students to have a darts competition. On Monday afternoons at the end of classes… incredible! Maybe they can put something similar in our school for Tuesday afternoons…
But in fact, today was not all about work and work. In the afternoon we all got together at Jonna's house and had a farewell party 🎉!
But the teachers missed it because they had to spend the day correcting exams 📝 (you can't leave everything to the last day 😜). Honestly, we don't feel sorry for them, after all, they are the ones who created them.
On the last day we gathered for a second work session in the Institute library to finish and present our work in video and podcast format. It was very interesting and quite interactive. In the final words of gratitude, our Erasmus+ Club of Santiago gave our colleagues from Germany a beautiful gift to remember our shared brotherhood: A Hispanic-Germanic pilgrim credential designed by Adriana, our technology teacher.
Then we all had lunch together in the cafeteria and with enough time we collected our luggage and headed out! Everyone at Hannover airport at 16:00 p.m. After a couple of flights and a short stopover at Barcelona airport we arrived in Santiago at around 00:15 a.m. and thus ended this new stage of our Erasmus+ Santiago-BND project.
5º DÍA: A pedagoxía do coidado e do respecto
Today, the fifth day of work, we had to get up early, but the excitement of what we were going to learn made us forget our sleep! Although the sky was a little cloudy, that didn't stop us. Eager to find out more about inclusion and how to work in this field, we headed a few kilometers from Bad Nenndorf, to the small town of Stadthagen.
There we visited Schule am Bürgerwald, a comprehensive center where adults with various types of disabilities live in foster homes and also find job opportunities, and the little ones receive help to easily learn how to develop a normal life. Among other workshops and factories, they have a coffee factory where thirty-five people work.
Inside the school, the space is designed to be accessible: automatic doors, special bathrooms and even quiet rooms to rest. The classes are super personalized, with only eight students per class, and they use technology, tools to help those who cannot speak.
In addition, the center offers therapies, homework classes for the elderly and even has a YouTube channel to showcase their work. All this with the aim of allowing each person to develop their skills and be part of society, all while enjoying an amazing coffee!
We also visited the "Basta" center, a women-run space to support those who have suffered gender-based violence or any other type of sexual or domestic violence.
They explained how they work and help women and girls. They also explained the differences between sexual abuse and harassment and possible avenues for inclusion for women victims of any type of violence.
We divided into three groups, each guided by a professional. In these groups, we discussed cases of violence against young women, including among peers and within families and friends. We discussed minor situations that all women share. The boys also addressed the problems of victimization, pornography, and violent relationships between peers.
The visit made us reflect on the importance of recognizing our forms of violence. Another step toward continuing to break down the "barriers in our heads."
Rematamos a xornada onde demostramos as nosas habilidades coas bolas na man…en fin, uns con máis sorte ca outros!
We finished the day demonstrating our skills with the balls in hand... well, some with more luck than others! We leave you some photos so you can see firsthand… A day full of learning, energy and, of course, coffee!

Today we changed gears: we put on our boots or sneakers and set off on a walk along an ancient medieval path. We met at 10:00 in the town square of Obernkirchen, a beautiful town with an impressive church. In good spirits and on a splendid day, we began the gentle but steady climb toward the Bückeberbe Mountains, famous for their sandstone mines and quarries, where dinosaurs also left their footprints.
Between pine trees and paths, we covered the 10 km between Obernkirchen and Katrinhagen, the town where our walk through ancient Germanic lands ended. The last stretch coincided with the route of the ancient pilgrimage route that runs north to south between two ancient Cistercian monasteries of Loccum and Volkenroda.
We finally arrived at the parish hall and pilgrims' hostel run by the Evangelical community of Katrinhagen. While Kai, the BND Erasmus+ coordinator, was preparing the holy barbecue, we went with Justus, one of the German teachers, to visit the Romanesque Church of St. Catherine, Martyr of Alexandria, where we saw its paintings, organ, and its famous centuries-old linden tree.
We eagerly ate the sausages and grilled chicken (we would have happily eaten anything else) outdoors, and it couldn't be more appropriate, because the wind blew us right to our plates. We all prepared together and cleared away the tables to go home. Tomorrow, we'll have a well-deserved day of family rest until Monday. Have a great weekend!
Today, the 2nd working day, we started our day with a splendid sunshine. Not to be outdone by the program, we used public transport, train and tram, to our destination Hannover.
We got off in the center, at the old market square, and strolled to the new town hall, a huge building next to a small lake, where the first conversation with Dr. Waraich, a specialist in gynecological oncology, was waiting for us.
We got off in the center, at the old market square, and strolled to the new town hall, a huge building next to a small lake, where the first conversation with Dr. Waraich, a specialist in gynecological oncology, was waiting for us. Wjahat Waraich combines his professional work at the hospital with his job as mayor of the most populous and diverse district of Hannover. He very kindly established a very interesting dialogue on the basis of the questions we had prepared for him.
He told us what his work consisted of, trying to facilitate and offer opportunities to his community and how he used part of his vacations, twice a year, as a medical aid worker in places of extreme need and emergency such as Benin, Chad, South Sudan, etc. Interestingly, both his political activity and the latter work were carried out on a voluntary basis.
Particularly moving were his three stays in Medika, on the southeastern border of Poland, of Europe, with Ukraine. There he was able to see and shared with us the importance of being prepared both professionally and psychologically to help effectively. Several times he insisted on asking us about our future including how to help the community and be useful to others.
After the official photos were taken, we rested on the shore of a small lake behind the town hall. There we could see how the ducks and swans wanted to share a snack with us.
Later, after seeing the famous surfers' wave on the Leine River, we went to Anne Leine Kaffee for lunch. It is a restaurant-cafeteria that trains and employs people with various types and degrees of disabilities. We had a wonderful meal, some with pasta and others with delicious fish.
Finally, we had some free time, which we took advantage of to get to know the city better and do some shopping. We returned by train and everyone went to their corresponding Germans: some went to have a barbecue, others had Asian food for dinner, others stayed in town.
And now it's time to rest after a great day because tomorrow we have to walk a little bit... 😄
A continuación estivemos co profesor Mr. Bessel, dunha maneira moi activa e moi participativa, foivos mostrando o cambio do modelo segregacionista ao modelo inclusivo actual acontecido en Alemaña aproximadamente hai dez anos.
Today we met early in the morning at the GBN school of our German colleagues. To warm up, we did some very fun dynamics to get to know each other better. Once settled, we started a series of talks about inclusion. Klaus Bohm, head of social inclusion for the Schaumburg district, came to the school and gave us a talk on disability and inclusion, reviewing the different types of barriers and providing very specific data on the types of benefits to which people with various types of disabilities are entitled. A very clear example was that the 3,250 people who receive direct aid represent 60 million euros annually. It was very interesting to address the issue of co-responsibility and effective participation through advisory councils made up of the users themselves. Next, we were with Professor Mr. Bessel, who, in a very active and participatory way, showed us the change from the segregationist model to the current inclusive model that took place in Germany approximately ten years ago. Like our model, he brought to the table the debate on the effectiveness and frustration of teachers with the current integration model in all schools, both in Germany and Spain. The second part of this block is the intervention of the social worker, explaining her growing work with both students and families with problems. We ended the inclusive day with a series of games guided by Ms Bessel, with games and simulations where we practiced putting ourselves in the shoes of people with some type of disability. And to complete the day, we were doing garden tasks: digging, measuring and hoeing. And with this and a cake, see you tomorrow at eight.
After visiting the famous "kiss" mural that they built with more than 4000 photos of people from Barcelona, and that people come from South Korea to visit (it went viral in 2014), we returned to the airport by metro, all sprinkled with curious anecdotes (María, be careful with your pockets!).
The day looked promising. After the early wake-up and the usual farewells, we got on the plane, after a good session of social media to have breakfast online. In Barcelona, we strolled through the Gothic Quarter in the rain. We went down Petriñol Street to recharge our batteries in one of its famous churrerías. The chocolate and the usual churros or ensaimadas tasted like heaven. We took a walk through its narrow and curious streets. We even went into a shop that preserved some old Jewish baths... beautiful! We passed by the Generalitat Palace and Barcelona City Hall to visit the ancient Roman Temple of Augustus on one side of the Cathedral.
Despois dunha viaxe preciosa rodeando os Alpes nevados chegamos sen problema a Hannover. Fenomenal para as nosas visitas e paseos. ¡Ata mañá!
After a beautiful trip around the snowy Alps, we arrived in Hannover without any problems. On the plane, there was another group of Catalan Erasmus students... and it showed! What a commotion when landing! The weather is the opposite. Here a beautiful day and it promises to continue like this almost all week. Great for our visits and walks. See you tomorrow!
