You will all take Science at GCSE, but you need to think carefully about which GCSE course will best suit your strengths and interests. With this mind, we will have a slot at the GCSE Options Evening for all pupils to hear about Dual Award Science (2 GCSEs) and separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics (3 GCSEs)
Typical Dual Science Chemistry past paper
If you do Single Chemistry you take the paper linked above and also the extra 1 hour 15 mins, 70 mark paper 2C.
Co-Curricular Activity, 'Insides Out' Dissection Club: just one of the many great ways to truly get to grips with subject at CHS. Many aspiring vets and medics take part.
You will study 3 sciences, but you will be awarded 2 IGCSEs.
No.
You will have the following:
In Year 10 per fortnight: 4 Chemistry periods, 3 for Physics and 3 for Biology
Year 11 per fortnight: 4 Physics periods, 3 for Chemistry and 3 for Biology.
All lessons taught by specialists just as for Single Award. There is an element of setting. Those with very good results across the sciences from Year 9 are placed in a set together. There are then usually four mixed ability sets. Those who find the Sciences more difficult will find themselves in a smaller set of approximately 12-14 students.
Yes.
For most students three Sciences is the absolute best decision. In exceptional circumstances the school may advise a student to consider only 2 Sciences.
Science GCSEs are useful for just about any career!
