JOB DESCRIPTION: HEAD ATHLETIC COACH
Job Summary: The head coach is responsible for planning, directing and and leading an education based athletic program that seeks to develop athletes of integrity.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must meet the head coaching requirements of the Cherry Creek School District and the coaching requirements set forth by CHSAA.
2. Experience coaching in an Education Based athletic program
3. Certified teacher preferred
4. Playing and/or coaching experience preferred.
REPORTS TO: High School Activities Director
JOB GOALS: To accept the responsibility of the program and work with the students/athletes in the sport assigned and to provide life lessons that will positively impact the physical, social and emotional well being of all who are involved.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Accept and implement the co-curricular philosophy of Smoky Hill High School.
2. Follows the rules and regulations of the school, the conference and the Colorado High School Activities Association.
3. Attend the rules interpretation meeting held by the Centennial League or CHSAA prior to each season.
4. The head coach is encouraged to maintain a membership in the appropriate coaches association and participate so that our school has representation.
5. Attend clinics, seminars and in-service programs in order to improve coaching skills and to stay current with new trends in coaching, training, conditioning and safety procedures.
6. Coaches are expected to attend school and conference meetings, and are encouraged to attend state coaches meetings
7. Give input about and then carry out the interscholastic schedule as drawn up by the Athletics Director.
8. Organize, schedule and supervise practice sessions.
9. Submit and verify transportation requests for scrimmages, practices and events.
10. Supervise the use of equipment in your sport
11. Assist the equipment manager with the development of a written annual inventory and make recommendations for purchases to the Athletics Director.
12. Assists the equipment manager with the distribution and collection of equipment and supplies.
13. Regularly inspect equipment and facilities to insure the safety of each student athlete.
14. Responsible for reporting scores and disseminating team information for publicity.
15. Participate in pre season and post season meetings with the Athletics Director. The post-season meeting will serve as an evaluation conference.
16. Delegate responsibility to the assistant coaches as appropriate.
17. Organize and participate in an end of the season information and evaluation sessions with all assistant coaches.
18. Work to develop continuity between the community and school programs.
19. Provide leadership in his or her program for all levels (9th, 10th, JV and Varsity) of the sport.
20. Only allows athletes certified by the Activities Office to participate.
21. Maintains appropriate supervision of his/her program at all times (locker rooms, practices, events, bus rides, etc.). Supervises any and all space used by athletes while they are present.
22. Assures that the squad at all times will reflect proper attitude and conduct at home or away.
23. Encourages young men and women to participate in sports and other co-curricular activities other than his/her own, but does not attempt to influence the specific sport or activity.
24. Establish and use a system of communication to athletes and parents that will include explanation of program policies, awards, procedures, goals and schedules.
25. Has responsibility for the end of season awards programs.
26. Represent the school in a professional manner in demeanor, language, and conduct (based on standards established by the Athletics Director).
27. Develop and maintain current knowledge of the activity being coached.
28. All other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.

JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT ATHLETIC COACH
Qualifications:
1. Valid Colorado Teacher certification or coaching license.
2. Previous coaching experience in assigned sport is desirable.
3. Has knowledge and background in the assigned sport.
Reports To:
The Head Coach in conjunction with the Athletics Director and Principal.
Supervises:
Athletes and team assigned to him/her and assumes supervising control over all athletes in the program when such control is needed.
Job Goal:
1. To carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach.
2. To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Has a thorough knowledge of policies of the Smoky Hill High School Athletics Department and is responsible for its implementation.
2. Has knowledge of the existing system, state and league regulations; implements same consistently.
3. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
4. Generates an attitude of good sportsmanship and fair play by adhering to the Colorado High School Activities Association “Code of Ethics”.
5. Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports programs.
Administrative Duties:
1. Carries out responsibilities as designated by the head coach.
Student Responsibilities:
1. Provides assistance and guidance to, and safeguards for, each participant (by his/her presence at all practices, games and while traveling).
2. Maintains the discipline framework and philosophy outlined by the head coach.
Equipment and Facilities:
1. Is accountable to the head coach for all equipment and assists the head coach with inventorying, issuing and storing of equipment.
2. Recommends to the head coach budgetary items for the next year in his/her area of the program.
3. Monitors coaches’ offices and authorizes who may enter.
4. Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
5. Examines locker rooms before and after games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility. Is responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of the specific sport equipment.
6. Secures all doors, windows and locks and checks lights before leaving building.
7. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
Program Responsibilities:
1. Assists the head coach in carrying out his/her responsibilities.
2. Instructs team members as to changes in the rules and teaches fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the head coach.
3. Maintains a record of team statistics.
4. Works within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach of that sport.
5. Attends all staff meetings and carries out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
6. Arrives early enough before practices, contests and meetings to adequately prepare and remains long enough to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
7. Helps in planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs.
8. Avoids criticizing, admonishing, or arguing with head coach or any staff member within ears or eyes of players or parents.
9. Strives to improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the head coach.
10. Performs such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and may be requested by the head coach.
JOB DESCRIPTION: VOLUNTEER COACH
1. Volunteer coaches may be used but must be contracted through the Cherry Creek School District.
2. Volunteers are not permitted to coach participants unless under the supervision of a licensed coach. They are not permitted to take players to contests on their own.
