STAFFING
1. It is the responsibility and obligation of Smoky Hill High School to staff its athletic programs. Positions will be filled according to the policy laid out by the Cherry Creek School District. This policy applies to all schools and in some cases is subject to the number of levels or athletes in a program.
2. Fundraising may NOT pay for a coach. It is a violation of CHSAA policy (Article 16) for a coach to be paid by any entity other than a school district.
3. Salary will be paid in accordance with District Policy 4142. Payment constitutes a nominal, fixed amount not tied to productivity of individual or team/group performance, i.e., win-loss record, score/place at competitions.
4. Volunteer Coaches: Coaches who agree to volunteer on your staff must fill out a classified application and be cleared by the district, before working with students.
5. The coaches contract covers the coach while conducting school related coaching from July 1 to June 30 of the following year.
COACHES’ MAILBOXES
1. During the sport season, it is absolutely necessary for coaches to check their mail/message box daily, which is located in the Athletics Office.
2. In addition, the mailbox should be checked regularly through the remainder of the year.
3. Coaches should check their voice-mail boxes and e-mail messages periodically for messages and respond to them in a timely manner.
PAYMENT OF COACHING STIPEND
1. All coaches/advisors are expected to remain involved for the length of their season.
2. Certified employees in the Cherry Creek district will receive their coaching stipend in three equal payments in their district paycheck.
3. Non-Certified Cherry Creek coaches will be paid in three installments according to a time sheet submitted each month to the Athletics office. Time sheets not turned in on time may result in payment being delayed.
INJURY WHILE COACHING/ADVISING
If you are injured while coaching you must report the injury immediately to the Athletics Office.
Any form that needs to be completed and sent to the Human Resources Office will be used to determine if Workers Compensation benefits are applicable.
Smoky Hill High School is a school of excellence and we expect coaches and volunteers to behave and act in a professional manner at all times. Smoky Hill High School administration takes this very seriously as our school, community, and student-athletes are represented by our coaches. When a coach is dismissed from a contest for unsportsmanlike conduct or inappropriate behavior reasons, that coach will be suspended for multiple games. The number of games will be decided by the athletic director and principal. The coach will also be placed on probation per CHSAA Article 24, Rule 2420.1b. The coach will be required to write a letter to accompany the administrator’s correspondence with CHSAA. If a coach is ejected from a contest again due to unsportsmanlike conduct or inappropriate behavior they will be terminated immediately and will not be eligible to coach in the Cherry Creek School District.
