East Student/Parent Handbook: CLICK HERE
Here is your one-stop guide to EVERYTHING at East. From academics and student services to activities and athletics, this handbook contains all the important information you may need throughout the year.
Student Parking 2025-2026
Driving and parking on school grounds is a privilege extended to students whose attendance and discipline records display consistent and acceptable behavior. As in previous years, Cherry Hill Public Schools will continue to assess a student parking fee. The parking fee for the 2025-2026 school year will be $50 per eligible student and is valid for the upcoming school year only. The parking fee is non-refundable for any reason and there are a limited number of student parking spaces.
Parking tags will be distributed on a first come, first served basis with Seniors having first priority. Additional parking may be offered to eligible Juniors, based on availability on a first come, first served basis during the school year.
For the 2025-2026 school year, all students will be assigned a specific parking spot in the lot. Students will not be permitted to park anywhere in the lot. To park on school property, a student must be assigned a parking permit which corresponds to this spot. When all student parking spaces have been assigned, there will be no additional parking permits issued.
In order to receive a parking permit, the following process must be followed:
Complete the parking permit application, signed electronically by both the student and their parent/guardian, on the Genesis Parent Portal. (Please note that images must be uploaded of the student’s driver’s license, current vehicle registration, and proof of insurance.)
You will receive an email when approval has been given.
Payment must be completed for the student to receive a parking permit.
Complete Online Registration – Genesis Parent Portal
Pay Student Parking Fee - PaySchools - https://payschoolscentral.com
Approved applicants will be notified through the student's school email address. The e-mail will contain information and instructions for picking up your parking permit from the high school. Permits will be distributed at the high school beginning the week of August 25th. Students cannot park on campus without a permit.
Please note that students are prohibited from parking in the yellow-lined spots or the Main Entrance Parking Lot, which are reserved exclusively for the school's faculty and staff. Any student observed parking in a faculty spot is subject to being issued a summons and towed at the owner’s expense.
HERE is an FAQ regarding student parking permits and the lot. If you have any further questions, please contact Mr. Davis at cdavis@chclc.org.
Early Dismissal (Half Day) Schedule Request 2025-2026 (For college courses or work during school hours)
This is available for students who are taking courses in the Fall and Spring from an accredited college, or working during school hours.
If you will be pursuing a half day/early dismissal schedule for the 2025-2026 school year, please complete the steps outlined below:
Complete the 2025-2026 Early Dismissal Request Form linked HERE.
If applicable, please fill out the Employment Verification Form linked HERE, and return it to Ms. Kavanagh in the main office.
Please Note: A half day/early dismissal request will only be approved if your remaining graduation requirements fit into a half day schedule.
If you have any questions, please contact your school counselor.
PE Exemptions
For those students who are seeking a PE exemption, you must complete the form attached HERE. The deadline for completion of this form is September 10th! No forms will be accepted after this date. Please note that this form must have the original signatures of the Coach, Parent, and Student. For your convenience, HERE is the PE Log that must be completed and turned in by January 23, 2026.
Hand in your completed form to Guidance - and don't forget to write your paragraph first!
Students must meet for and maintain no less than 150 minutes (2 ½ hours) of team or program-organized activity each week that school is in session. The time requirement is not an “average” of multiple weeks. Time may include active participation in competitive events. It may not include days when school is not in session. Physical therapy and individual workouts are not applied toward the time requirement. Students must be supervised by an adult coach. Physical activities must meet PE standards. Credit is awarded only if the student submits a completed log meeting all criteria by the deadline. Students will only be placed in a study hall.
Senior Privilege 2025-2026 (Arriving late or leaving early with study hall)
This year, “Senior Privilege” at Cherry Hill East is available to members of the Class of 2026 who are scheduled for a study hall. Senior Privilege allows students who have study hall first or last period of the day to arrive at school after their study hall period has ended, or to leave school early if their study hall is at the end of the day. Students who would like to utilize this privilege must have a parent/guardian complete the application on the Genesis Parent Portal.
A student’s Senior Privilege may be revoked at any time during the school year by the student’s parent/guardian or School Administrator, should a student become ineligible.
To qualify for Senior Privilege, students must meet certain requirements and maintain their eligibility for the entire year. Eligibility is checked at the end of each marking period. Any student who fails to maintain eligibility will have his or her Senior Privilege suspended until they become eligible to have it reinstated. Students who fail to qualify for Senior Privilege may re-apply at the end of each marking period.
Possible reasons for suspension of privilege include:
Student not passing all classes in the current marking period
Student has more than three lates to period two
Administration will inform students and parents/guardians by email when they have been approved for Senior Privilege. Students who leave school early without proper approval will be considered to have left school grounds without permission, and consequences including Saturday School and suspension will be given. Students who have late arrival should report to the Communications Office upon arrival to scan into school.
Senior Privilege students who have study hall at the end of the day should report to the Student Entrance to scan out of school. Students will then leave the building through the Student Entrance. Students must leave the school premises immediately, upon signing out. If the student has an after-school activity, they must return to that activity after school has been dismissed.
Cherry Hill East is NOT an open campus. Students cannot leave and return to the school building when their study hall aligns with the lunch periods. Students must leave the school premises immediately, upon signing out and cannot return unless they have a doctor's note.
Attendance System (as of Feb 10, 2025)
Sign in to the Genesis Parent Portal, choose Attendance, and then Notify Attendance Office. You then choose whether your child will be Absent, Tardy, or have an Early Dismissal. Include the date of the occurrence and a brief note for the reason. In addition, there is a place to upload any documentation about upcoming absences. Doctor's notes can be uploaded after your child has seen the doctor. Please note that excused vs. unexcused absences are not affected by the online communication. The same rules will apply.
As a reminder, please make sure that early dismissals are logged in the system at least 1 hour prior to you picking up your child. We also ask that in the Notes section, you indicate who will be picking up your child. Whoever will be picking up your child must be listed in Genesis as an approved pickup person, and must present their government-issued ID. If your child drives themselves, please note that as well.
If your child has an early dismissal, the attendance office sends an electronic pass to both you and your child. The one for your child allows them to leave class to go to the pickup area. The one for you is to just confirm that you are aware of the early dismissal.
HERE is a YouTube video from another school which explains the process. The video DOES NOT show where to upload a document; however, there is a clickable link on the portal to do so.
Please email eastattendance@chclc.org should you have any questions.
Food Delivery Guidelines
Food from outside providers CANNOT be delivered to East nor can parents bring food from outside restaurants. This is against both BOE policy and the contract we have with Aramark. Communications has been instructed to not allow any food from outside vendors to be delivered. If your child forgets their lunch, you can bring a homemade lunch to school for him/her/them or they can purchase lunch in the cafeteria. Thank you for your understanding.

Chromebook Policies & Student Accountability
As part of our continued commitment to providing every student with the tools they need for success, all students will be issued a district Chromebook (if they have not received one already). While students may use a personal device for daily schoolwork, the school-issued Chromebook must remain available for state testing and other required assessments.
To ensure that devices are cared for and available when needed, the following expectations are in place:
Daily Responsibility: Students are expected to bring their charged device to school every day.
Loaner Devices: If a student forgets their device, they may borrow a school Chromebook for the day from the Grade Level Office. Loaners MUST be returned before dismissal.
Limited Use: Each student may sign out a loaner only three (3) times per school year. After this limit, students will not be issued additional loaners.
Chargers: School-issued chargers are provided with Chromebooks and must remain with the device. Chargers may not be borrowed separately, nor may they be used for personal devices (such as phones). Students are expected to bring their charger from home if needed.
Accountability for Care: Devices will be checked when issued and at return. Any damage, neglect, or loss will be documented, and families will be contacted regarding responsibility for repair or replacement.
Tech Support: If a student’s Chromebook is not working properly, see Mr. Rick Friedman, located by the library, for assistance - RFriedman@chclc.org
Check out our Chromebook FAQ document for more questions/answers!
These updates are designed to promote accountability and responsibility while ensuring that all students have access to functioning devices when required. We ask for your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home so that our school resources remain in good condition for every student.
