This website is meant as a resource to complement what we learn in class!

Each week there will be something new, so visit often and give us feedback on what you like and what you struggle with!

Week 2, Lesson 1: K.3B: solve word problems using objects and drawings to find the sums up to 10 and differences within 10.

Practice making your own addition problems using items found around the house such as toys. (example: Mark has 4 blue legos and Eric has 3 blue legos. How many legos do they have in all? Write the problem as 4+3=7)

Write the problems you made using your favorite color marker or crayon.

Practice making your own subtraction problems using items found around the house such as toys. (example: I have 7 hot wheels cars and I give 3 away. How many cars do I still have? Write the problem as 7-3=4)

Click on the website www.mathisfun.com and once you get to their homepage click on numbers. Once you click on numbers, it will take you to another page. On this page, click on either addition or subtraction and practice the problems.

You can also go to the IXL website https://www.ixl.com/math/kindergarten and practice the lessons in J1-11 and K1-9.

Week 2, Lesson 2: K.2H: use comparative language to describe two numbers up to 20 presented as written numerals

I can use pennies and objects to compare numbers using the words more, less, greater, fewer, and equal.

Activity:

What words do we use when comparing numbers?

Place 10 pennies into a baggie or cup. Shake and spill them onto a flat surface. Sort the pennies by heads or tails. Use the Penny anchor chart to determine which side of the coin is heads and which side is tails.

Once the pennies are sorted, decide which ends up with more, heads or tails. Talk about what you see using the words more, less, greater, fewer, and equal.

Practice:

What you need: items around the house such as beans, cotton balls, buttons, marbles, legos etc.

What you do: create a set of items for each number 1-10 using the items you collected. Say the number that is one more than the amount in each set then, say the number that is one less than the amount in each set.

Activity:

Stack the Deck

Materials you need:

2 sets of Number cards ( Individual pieces of paper with numbers 0 to 20)

Instructions:

  1. Mix and stack cards facing down.

  2. Draw 2 cards

  3. Ask your child to compare the numbers. (Which number is less, greater, or are they equal)

  4. Child says the number, Counts to the number

(to make it extra fun you can have your child hop, jumping jacks, clap when they count)

Make it a challenge : How many numbers can they compare in 30 seconds?
