Watch this video refresher on the music staff
Watch this fun video of a parody of Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” but its TREBLE!
The music staff is made up of 5 lines and 4 spaces. We make up sentences or words to help us remember the names of the lines and spaces in order.
Draw out a music staff by making 5 horizontal (sideways) lines on a piece of paper. Using the video as a guide, start on the bottom of the staff and write your own sentence to remember the names of the lines. Can you come up with a new sentence using the letters E - G - B - D - F?

Can you make your own? Draw a music staff on a piece of paper, and draw dots on lines and spaces to create your own words. If you’d like to share your work, take a picture and email it to your teacher.
Something else you could do is put some masking tape on the floor to make 5 straight lines, like a staff! Have a parent/grandparent/sibling call out note names and you try to jump to the space! They could even name more than one and you can use both feet. You could also cut out “notes” with paper and place them on the lines.

REMEMBER: When you draw your dots, make sure you’re putting it right in the middle of the space or right through the middle of the line so we can tell what note you’re using!

I can recognize important musical vocabulary in context
Introduction: This week we are going to play bingo! Here is how to play
Go to the video of Beethoven Symphony
As you watch the video you can see this bingo card. When you see something on the card pop up on the video (ex: strings is on the card and in the video someone playing the violin appears) then you can cross it off! If you don't know a word feel free to look it up! Here is a link to the card, feel free to copy it onto a piece of paper or print it out.
music starts at 0:46, no need to watch entire video
no need to print, you can rewrite on a piece of paper
I can enjoy music from other cultures.
Listen to the video about Gamelan Music. This is a form of music that comes from the island of Java in Indonesia. Notice that many of the instruments that they use are unlike any that we use in America.
Complete the Gamelan worksheet (at the top match the words with their definitions and at the bottom fill in the blanks). You can use the Gamelan insturments image below it to help you.
I can correctly label and count ties and dotted rhythms.
Introduction: Attached is a worksheet to help you freshen up your ties and dotted rhythm skills! Remember:
Ties- a line underneath a note to another note that “ties” those notes together making the notes values get added together. Ex Quarter note (1 beat) tied to a half note (2 beats) means that you hold both notes together for 3 beats!
Dots: A dot added to a note adds half the value of the note to the note. Quarter = 1 beat dotted quarter=1.5 beats.
In the answer sheet you will see either 1 te (Jackson folks) or 1 and (Kissam and Wise folks) use. If you do not have a printer feel free to write out your own rhythms.
