Standards Based Approach

Standards-based approaches to educating students use state learning standards to determine academic expectations and define "proficiency" in a given course, subject area, or grade level.  Standards-based systems of instruction, assessment, grading, and academic reporting are based on students demonstrating understanding or mastery of the knowledge and skills they are expected to learn as they progress through their education. The general goal of standards-based teaching and learning is to ensure that students are acquiring the knowledge and skills that are deemed to be essential to success in school, higher education, careers, and adult life.

Options Include: 

• Provide training and coaching in the development of standards-based learning targets, success criteria, and assessments.

• Provide training and coaching in a standards-based assessment blueprinting process to support the development and/or review of local assessments to ensure alignment with academic standards and classroom instructional practices including cognitive complexity.

• Provide training and coaching to support the implementation of standards-based grading systems including identifying essential standards, determining proficiency levels, selecting evidence of student learning, and communicating with stakeholders.

• Local Funds

• Title Funds (depending on specific programming)

• Some professional development opportunities are offered to CESA 7 districts at no cost through a partnership with WI DPI
