Each program participant will be observed at least once per term. Observations are recorded in the appropriate observation tab on the bottom of the checklist. The TDC evaluator or mentor (depending on the type of the observation) will record the scores for the scholar for each of the ten teacher standards, making comments for each standard. Within a week or so of the observation, the observer will meet with the scholar to discuss the observation add comments, sign and date the observation
Scholars are observed in their own classrooms and in their other grade bands using the rubric ratings below. Components that were not observed during the lesson are not considered a negative reflection on the teacher or the overall performance.
3 - Exceeds
The teacher consistently exceeds expectations, demonstrating highly effective, innovative, and reflective teaching that positively impacts all learners.
2 - Consistently Meets
The teacher meets expectations and demonstrates consistent, effective teaching practices that support student learning.
1 - Meets Minimum
The teacher shows some foundational skills but requires significant growth to consistently meet expectations.
0 - Unsatisfactory
The teacher does not meet expectations and demonstrates minimal effectiveness in planning, instruction, or classroom management.
General Information
The formative observation takes place in the scholar's classroom and consists of three parts with the purpose of determining how the scholar is progressing in the most fundamental aspects of effective classroom instruction.
General Info/Grade Bands
In the pre-student teaching observations, scholars are rated using the WI Teacher Standards. They take place in each of the grade bands of the scholar's desired license area. One is in the scholar's classroom and the other one or two take place in other classrooms.
Note: It is the responsibility of the scholar/district to arrange the pre-student teaching observations outside of the scholar's assignment.
General Info
In the student teaching term, scholars are rated in their own classroom using the WI Teacher Standards four times by the Teacher-Coach.
They are evaluated once in their own classroom by the Mentor using the simplified form.
