The goals for the Yosemite Valley/Monarch River Special Education Department will be part of our overall evaluation process for the 2020-21 school-year. For those of you who worked with me last school-year they may look very familiar. We are in some trying times in our country, but our organization, state, and federal government believe we have been given ample time to have a plan of action to move forward with to ensure our students are receiving a rigorous and relevant 21st Century education that will allow our students the opportunity to excel in a higher learning institution, job preparation programs, and/or the workforce. Our goals for our entire staff to include myself are:
Collaboration within our own team, with the HST's and regional coordinators assigned to our students, and with our families
We will meet monthly with our HST's and parents to ensure our students are making progress in their IEP goals and current student assignments.
If a student is falling behind the IEP team will be called together to redefine student IEP goals, services, and accommodations.
The writing of legally compliant IEP's and assessments that are defensible in due process hearings and in courts of law.
Each month your Program Specialist will meet with each case manager to discuss strengths and areas for growth in their most current IEP's. If there are continued areas for growth additional training will be required and more frequent meetings with your Program Specialist.
We will see a rise in student achievement data on the CAASPP and in our reading, writing, and math STAR 360 assessments.
Each special education student will be required to take the STAR 360, which is our diagnostic assessment for reading and mathematics. (This is required by the state of California since there isn't CAASPP data for 2019-20). If a student is reading below grade level the student will need to be placed into a reading intervention. This goes the same for any student struggling with grade level mathematics. These students will be discussed in your weekly/bi-weekly meetings with your Program Specialists.
In addition, we will be writing SMARTe Goals from the 2018-19 ELA and Mathematics CAASPP assessment for our special education students.
