Curriculum Intent
Studying sociology at Cedars gives students the opportunity to delve deeper into society and understand how it functions. The Sociology A level and GCSE courses aim to create young sociologists who evaluate society around them and allow them to gain an appreciation of how and why society works in the way that it does. Students will be exposed to a range of sociological skills and knowledge. They will gain an appreciation and understanding of the work of a diverse representation of sociologists in the past and present. They will develop a greater understanding and awareness of social, political, legal and educational changes in society and their implications. Students will develop their analytical and communication skills by comparing and contrasting perspectives on a variety of social issues, constructing reasoned arguments, making substantiated judgements and drawing reasoned conclusions. They will develop a greater sense of respect, tolerance and understanding of class, gender and ethnic diversity and differences in society, which is highly valued at Cedars.
Sociology students are well prepared for future roles that involve working with, and supporting all members of society. Studying sociology at Cedars will enrich their skills for the future, making them thoughtful, reflective, empathetic and inclusive practitioners.
