Curriculum Intent
Studying child development at Cedars gives students an opportunity to understand and explore working with children and child development, from birth to five years across all development areas.
Students will be able to develop knowledge, understanding and technical skills by planning, developing and adapting play opportunities suitable for young children across the five areas of development. Students will participate in practical tasks enforcing knowledge and understanding about holistic development and factors that contribute to affecting it. Students will investigate internal and external factors that affect development, such as the importance of play and how child-friendly environments help to support this, as well as learning difficulties and disabilities.
Our curriculum will ensure that all of our students will have the opportunity to:
Provide opportunities for students to be creative through a work experience placement in an early years setting, developing both their knowledge and skills of child development.
Engage with a range of technical language and use it to communicate to a range of audiences.
Develop determination, independence and resilience through opportunities to problem solve and take calculated risks.
Develop as future leaders of childrens’ early education, teachers, midwives and child minders and enabling them to fulfil their career aspirations and personal goals.
Learn about and respect a diverse range of childcare practitioners and individuals.
Achieve success in a subject that opens career opportunities.
