Curriculum Intent
In science we ensure our learners achieve excellence now, and in their future choices and careers through an in-depth, engaging, scientific curriculum that is mapped to the Big Ideas of science and teaches the principles of scientific method.
Learners are exposed to a variety of STEM careers mapped to our curriculum to inspire and provide concrete examples of science being used in real life.
Our curriculum develops our learners as confident and resilient individuals by giving learners opportunities to make, and learn, from mistakes through effective feedback. We also provide knowledge on how choices can affect your health and lifestyle to allow students to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.
Our article of the week gives exposure to scientific literature and encourages reading around the subject to help with the development of tier three vocabulary. Students are also given the opportunity to practice & develop their extended writing skills when answering QWC questions.
Our curriculum allows our students to see themselves represented because we ensure we provide examples of real people who use science to solve problems and better humanity and then give learners creative opportunities to try this for themselves.
Our curriculum also gives students the opportunities to utilise online platforms for assistance with memory and revision and to utilise the g-suite to provide scaffolding to help our students in becoming pro-active, and independent workers.
