Curriculum Intent
Studying geography helps to provoke and answer questions about the world, encouraging students to develop a greater understanding of the environment and human interaction with it. It is by nature an investigative subject, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge and transferable skills such as problem solving, data analysis and critical thinking. We seek to develop engaged and aspirational students by inspiring a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We develop respectful and determined global citizens through promoting student’s interest and understanding about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. The curriculum provides opportunities for all students to successfully engage with the geographical world through exploring texts, wider reading, and the use of digital technology such as GIS.
The geography curriculum at all key stages provides students with a greater understanding of the world that helps students to find their place in an increasingly globalised job market and can lead to careers in international business and trade; jobs in the new ‘green economy’ as well as potential careers in government and the civil service.
