PHILOSOPHY OF INSTRUCTION

Coeur d’Alene Public Schools believes that students must develop literacy skills that allow them to achieve academic success, build meaningful careers, and become active and informed citizens of the United States and the world. We also believe a well developed curriculum dedicated to reading, writing, speaking, and listening will help children to learn about themselves while also learning about those around us. Furthermore, our district is dedicated to developing students who:

  • Communicate clearly when writing or speaking
  • Read for knowledge and for pleasure
  • Read widely, deeply, and critically
  • Read and write independently for extended periods of time
  • Ask questions and seek answers
  • Use textual evidence to support a point of view
  • Employ strategies that make them more effective readers, writers, and speakers
  • Possess a rich and varied vocabulary
  • Listen respectfully and critically
  • Reflect on their thinking and their work
  • Appreciate the power and the beauty of the written word
