USMC Regional Directors nominate USMC JROTC schools and cadets/instructors to attend this Marine Corps JROTC-only drill and color guard training week!
The motivation for sending cadets to drill camp is to build a core of competitive cadets. SMI should select cadets who are committed to the program and your drill team. Ideally, LE II's and III's can give you a couple of years' return on investment.
* Do not send seniors/LE IVs.
* Do not send a completely inexperienced cadet that cannot execute basic drill movements, i.e., can’t stay in step, can’t pivot properly (or at all), doesn’t know the position of attention, doesn’t know his right from left, etc.
This camp is not designed to teach a cadet the basics. It’s designed to make your mid-level and somewhat experienced cadet better and give them the tools it takes to go back and pass those skills to your other cadets.
Region 1 SLC Outdoor Odyssey 24 - 30 July 2022
Who. Region 1 cadets and instructors
What. Opportunity to attend Region1 SLC
When/Where 24 - 30 July, Outdoor Odyssey, Boswell, Pennsylvania (https://www.outdoorodyssey.org)
Why. Provide opportunities for deserving cadets in your units.
The only out of pocket expense for your cadets is a $25 fee due in cash when they check-in at the camp. Outdoor Odyssey provides each cadet four (04) t-shirts of four different colors to be worn during camp. There is a field on the tracker spreadsheet for you to list their t-shirt size.
Guidance for who should attend and how many.
SLC is intended for rising senior/LE4 cadets. I am strictly enforcing the type of cadet you send this year. Your candidates should be your top leaders for the upcoming school year. If your top cadet(s) is not a rising LE4 then you need to make a case for the exception.
Each unit is expected to fill two (02) quotas. Your participation or lack of participation at the SLC will reflect on the Naval Honor School selections.
If you choose not to send any cadets to SLC then I will redistribute the unclaimed quotas at my discretion. You do not have to send any cadets. This is strictly voluntary. If you do elect to send cadets, understand that you will be responsible for coordinating their travel with the camp. That means submitting a PRD for either air travel or ground transportation using the APAN PRD Smartbook. You must also be available to ensure your cadets get to the airport and camp, if a cadet has issues in transit you must be available to assist them. This is not a "fire and forget" situation. If you are not able to provide the oversite needed to ensure your cadet arrives at the camp and returns to home base safely, then don't request any quotas. Cadets will fly into Pittsburgh Airport. Outdoor Odyssey staff will pick cadets up at the airport and return them at the end of camp. Cadets arriving via ground transportation will drive straight to the camp.
