Our State event is broken into two rounds. You must "place" in the first to make it to the second:

Our State is divided into three regions by the American Legion standards. They are Northern, Eastern and Western. You can view the state map at JR Shooting Sports - The American Legion Department of Virginia (valegion.org) for more details.
Second event Department (State) Championship, Saturday 14 May 2022
This will be an invitational showing based off of the team scores fired during the regional.

Official Match Program for 2022
The American Legion sponsors a program of marksmanship and gun safety education for middle and high school age youth. As a major component of this program, The American Legion of Virginia conducts a Junior Three Positions Air Rifle Tournament, which provides shooters an opportunity to test their marksmanship ability in competition with other junior shooters throughout the state, representing their American Legion Post.
The Individual Tournament has two phrases of competition: Regional Qualification Round and State Championship. Both phases of the Tournament are shoulder-to-shoulder competition and will be a CMP Sanctioned match with Excellence in Competition Points (EIC) awarded. The Tournaments will be conducted in accordance with this Official Match Program (OMP) and the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules.
The Department of Virginia, North Region Match will be held on Saturday 30 April 2022, at the Arlington/Fairfax Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, 14708 Mt Olive Rd, Centreville, VA. We thank the Arlington/Fairfax Chapter of the Izaak Walton League for their valued assistance and sponsorship of this competition.
Who May Compete: Sponsorship: Entry in North Region tournament is limited to shooters who are active members of a Junior Shooting Clubs (includes 4-H Boy Scouts, JROTC’s of all branches and individuals) that are sponsored by, or affiliated with an American Legion Post, Unit or Squadron, in the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th Districts. Affiliation form is attached (page 5).
Age Limits: See Rule 3.0 in the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules. Competitors who have reached their 18th birthday and are in the high school class of 2022, and those younger, are eligible to compete.
Entrance Fees: There is a onetime $20.00 per shooter match entrance fee, which includes the North Region Qualifier, and the State Tournament for those team/individuals qualifying to participate. The tournament fee is to be paid prior to, or at the Regional Contest is fired. The Regional Director will furnish a roster of teams paying at the regional match to the State Director. Fees can be paid in cash or by check; make check payable to “American Legion Post 72”. Fees may be paid the day of the match at check in or mailed to:

Match Sanction: Each Regional match and the State match will be a 3x20 CMP Sanctioned match. EIC points will be awarded as per current CMP guidelines.
Teams: Clubs may enter up to twenty (20) shooter/athletes for the Regional Tournaments. Teams of four athletes each must be identified upon registration. Any qualified athlete can shoot in the match as an individual. Changes may be made at onsite registration, no less than thirty minutes before start of their relay.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Sporter teams and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Precision team will be invited to the State Championship Match. If any invited team cannot participate in the State Championship match, the next placed team from the three regional qualifier matches will be invited. In the event a member from an invited team cannot attend the State Championship, only a member who participated in the Regional Match can be used as a substitute.
Individual athletes may compete in the North Region Championship for CMP EIC points if the Club is unable to field a full team. Individual athletes may be invited to the State Championship based on highest to lowest scores and depending on availability of open lanes at the State Championship.
Scoring System: MegaLink Electronic Scoring system will be used. Scores will be uploaded to the Department of Virginia State Championship Orion Scoring System webpage.
Match Results Bulletins: Results will be posted at the end of the Northern Region Qualification Round. The results will be posted to the Orion web site www.orionresults.com , and to the CMP Competition Tracker.
Equipment Classes: Sporter Air Rifle and Precision Air Rifle are eligible for this event.
Equipment: As described in National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle rules (Section 4.2, 4.3 & 4.7 – Sporter, Section 4.4, 4.5, 4.7 – precision.) Teams are responsible to supply their own CO2. Compressed air will be available at the range. Each team will have to supply the correct manifolds for their rifles. Team adults will be responsible for refills; range personal will supervise fills.
Clothing: National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle rules will apply to the match (Section 4.3 – Sporter, Section 4.6 – precision.)
Courses of Fire: Northern Region Qualification Round will be 3x20 (no finals).
The individual 3x20 course of fire consists of 20 shots each in the prone, standing, and kneeling positions, fired in that order.
Registration: Coaches should email the attached 2022 Match Registration Form, containing the following information, to ALJSSP North Region Chairman Claude Davenport at ssa_davenport@hotmail.com: 1) Club / School Name, 2) Coaches / Point of Contact information, 3) American Legion Post affiliation, 4) Team members first & last names, 5) CMP numbers, 6) gender, 7) Precision or Sporter class, 8) Relay 1st and 2nd choice assignments.
Registration for this match will close when all relays are filled or at 2100hrs, Sunday 25 April. Team lists must be submitted prior to the closing of registration.
It is the coaches’ responsibility to ensure that all shooter/athletes who are registered for the match have the proper name as is recorded by CMP when they got their CMP number. It is also the coaches’ responsibility to ensure the CMP numbers are correct and gender is included with the roster.
The American Legion supports Youth Protection measures for its youth programs. For the Department of Virginia’s regional and state matches, Coaches affiliated with a post will need to verify a youth protection background check and youth safety training with the affiliating Post Commander. American Legion Post sponsored teams, must be in compliance with background investigation and youth safety training as per required by the American Legion National Junior Shooting Sports Program.
Northern Region Qualification Round Dates and Relay Times: Saturday, 30 April 2022:
1st relay: 0800hrs
2nd relay: 1000hrs
3rd relay: 1200hrs
4th relay: 1400hrs (if necessary)
Athletes will be allowed to enter the range and setup approximately 15 minutes before the start of their relay. Coaches and athletes should arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to their relay to verify team and registration. The course of fire will start at the designated time.
Rules: The 2020-2022 National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules will apply.
Range Safety: All of the safety rules specified in the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules will be followed. No one will go down range without CBI’S inserted and rifles grounded. Eye protection is highly suggested.
COVID protocols: Current Commonwealth of Virginia and local range COVID protocols will be provided as updated. Range briefing will include the details of mask/face covering use during the match.
Awards: Regional Qualification Rounds: First, second, and third place Sporter & Precision Teams receive individual medals as well as a team plaque for the affiliated American Legion Post. First, second, and third place Sporter & Precision Individuals will receive medallions. Presentation will be made after the last relay official results have been posted.

Centreville, Virginia. Please note: Gear may be unloaded at the entrance to the air range. After unloading, competitors are asked to park at the air rifle parking lot on the left just before the air rifle range.
