Course Description: Industry Fundamentals and Occupational safety is a foundational course that serves as an introduction to and encompasses the basics and fundamentals of common skills covering a variety of construction occupations and is a pre-requisite to all other courses within the Construction Technology program. Emphasis includes basic construction skills such as the value and importance of job site safety for individuals and teams, mathematics and math concepts as they relate to the construction field, the proper use of hand tools, the proper use of power tools, knowledge of blueprint terms, components, symbols, and blueprint reading, as well as basic rigging procedures.

Course Description: Introduction to Construction provides students with the knowledge of the development of the construction industry. Within this course, students will be introduced to the varying components of the Carpentry, Electrical, Masonry, and Plumbing trades. Students will also be introduced to Apprenticeship Programs as well as understand the differences between job opportunities versus career opportunities. Students will also strengthen their knowledge regarding the use of basic hand and power tools and their varying uses for different trades.

Course Description: Carpentry I is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of the carpentry trade as well as the basic skills it requires. Students learn about framing basics with common and engineering lumber. After completing this course, students will be able to identify the rate as well as select and use proper materials required for constructing floor and wall systems and related components including proper sub flooring and sheathing materials.
