You will need the following tools:
an iron
ruler
marking pencil
carbon paper
Steps in preparing and attaching the patch pocket to the polo shirt
Fold and sew 1/4" on the upper fold of the pocket.
2. Fold along the line of the pocket opening towards the right side and stitch the edges.
3. Baste the pocket on the left front of the shirt.
4. Machine stitch from the end of the pocket opening diagonally, 1/16 from the edge.
Steps in attaching the yoke
A yoke is a part of a garment that is attached to complete the piece. In shirt construction it is a part of the back piece that reinforces the shoulder.
Mark the center of the back shirt with a notch.
2. Make the necessary folds for pleats, if desired.
3. Place one piece of the yoke on top or on the right side of the back shirt.
4. Lay another piece on the wrong side of the back shirt. Be wants that the notches meet. Stitch 3/8" from the edge.
5. Turn the yoke upward and press to flatten.
Steps in joining the shoulders
Match the front and back shoulders of the shirt and stitch 1/4" inch on both shoulders.
2. Match the shoulder of the two yokes and stitch together.
3. Pull the shirt outward from the joined yokes and shoulders.
Steps in attaching the collar
If you are using interfacing, press it onto one collar band and one collar blade. Press up seam allowance on the bottom edge of the interfaced band.
Sew collar blades together along outer edges, right sides together.
Press seam allowance, clip corners and turn, then topstitch 1/8″ from the edge.
2. Sandwich collar blade between collar bands
3. Sew the non-interfaced band to the neckline of the shirt, wrong sides together, then press.
4. Starting at the button side corner, topstitch folded seam allowance in place, as close to the edge as possible, and continue stitching around the collar band.
3. Pull the shirt outward from the joined yokes and shoulders.
Steps in preparing the sleeves
Fold the bottom allowance by 1/4 inch towards the wrong side of the cloth.
2. Fold the hemline and machine stitch.
3. Fold the edge of the sleeve cap by 1/4" towards the of the cloth.
Steps in attaching the sleeves
Match the armscye of the sleeves and the shoulder center of the sleeves and yoke. See that they match well.
2. See that the sleeve cap is wider by 3/8" from the shirt armscye. Machine stitch by 1/8"
3. Spread the bodice and the sleeve with allowance towards the bodice of the shirt and sew 1/4"
4. Sew 1/4 around the armscye from the shoulder
Joining the sides
In joining the sides of the polo shirt, machine stitch the side seams.
Hemming the bottom
Turn allowance to the front opening, stitch the under allowance to the bottom.
Fold by 1/4" from the lower part.
Finish the hemline by machine stitching.
