SUMMARY:
This portfolio contains projects and research gathered about student's connection to their learning and how teachers can effectively adapt learning to the present interests of students.
Through inquiry-based instruction students can develop upon learning, ask questions and work with the teacher to still achieve curriculum goals while following student interests.
Essential Questions:
How can teachers foster student curiosities in their assignments while making gradable measurable goals?
How can I feel like this project aligns with my interests, and builds off my desire to learn a particular thing?
"Children are undestood to be driven by an insatiable curosity as to how the world works; we watch them poke and prod at things to see what reactions they get. Similarly, children are intrigued with other people and watch them carry out daily activities." (R. Brook & Meltzoff, 2014; S. Engel, 2015; Hunnius & Bekkering, 2020; K. Nelson, 1996a)
"When allowed to explore on their own, Children tinker around with objects in a manner that allows them to form conjectures and test hypotheses about how things work... In the process, they notice patterns, alter their ideas, and take a political stand." (C. Cook, Goodman, & Schulz, 2011; Yardley, 2014)
When we allow adaptive teaching strategies in the class students have the chance to tinker, relate, and develop upon prior knowledge. When this knowledge is tested it may be stregthened and fortified to notice new patterns.
This is a mindmap outlining the comprehension and creation of statements, and their cross-cultural ties. In understanding statements and how they are made, we can have a greater understanding of what is being taught and how that relates to lessons and new information.
This presentation contains my primary and secondary research. The study here models: memory, learning, school district goals, and the harmful effects of the Ophelia syndrome on learning in the classroom; which disconnects learners with classroom content. Through Inquiry-based Intsruction teachers can connect with all types of learners and improve the retention of information after the lessons are taught.
This is an example of a research paper from last year. The assignment connected with me on a personal level and allowed me to share my interests with my class and deepen my understanding of Hunting, Ecosystems, predators, and man's relationship with its food.
A detailed structure of a lesson plan, with student accommodations (special needs, English Language Learners....) that incorporates different learning tasks, group work, and formative assessments to gauge and measure learning and student engagement.
This is an assignment that was designed to connect students in a get to know you activity. They can share their perspective on a particular hobby or belief, or share an event from their lives and what they've learned from it. All to connect students to produce something and connect with curriculum to make some memorable takeaway.
This documents highlight work that is made with the intention to engage with students on a personal level. The goal is so that the students connect with the assignment and through this connection they have a memorable takeaway in completion of the project.
