INCLUSION PORTFOLIO SUMMARY
Creating a portfolio plan led me to find ways, problems, strategies about the aspects of Inclusion. In other words, human are sensitive to beliefs, feelings, and judgements. Students want to find a place they belong. Since they spend at least 8 hours in the Education system, as teachers it's crucial for us to create a comfortable niche within the classroom. "Perhaps most important, a sense of self helps a person find a comfortable niche in a complex world, a place in which an individual feels capable, cared for, and respected."
Creating my portfolio allowed me to create and research a narrow focus on Inclusion. You can see and access all the material and documents attached below they connect back to or the main focus is Inclusion. For my field project, I was able to find the problems with Inclusion to be under-qualified teacher training with disabled students and accepting diversity. I learned multiple inclusion strategies that will be present and acted upon in my teaching philosophy. For the connection case study, I was able to create a lesson bases on research-based strategies and high order thinking. I pulled in what I learned about Inclusion in my team meetings every Friday. I made sure my lessons had some way to have a connection. I made sure each student was recognized, talked with, included in presentation, questions, guidance, and discussions.
This portfolio is meaningful to me because it aligns with my values as a teacher. I'm very admit on having everyone feel a part of the class. I have gained insights and meaningful aspects to help my future students who are key in my career. Enjoy the information:)
PERSONAL: Inclusion Portfolio Plan
How can we bring and make full inclusion in our classroom?
Students need to feel accepted within your classroom doors.
Children will rebel/act out when they don't feel safe within an environment. They need an opportunity to fail within a safe space.
The connection case study addresses students in the late adolescence stage with developmental considerations, multiple intelligence applications, and memory and transfer facilitations. This art lesson plan was create to “Get students physically involved in lessons” (248). If we can get students involved, we are one step closer to inclusion for them.
Knowledge Construction Map - Sense of self/ Aspects of Inclusion
Sense of self reflects greatly these days in students with beliefs, judgements and feelings. Their personal self esteem can be influenced or changed due to the stated factors within the mind map. Sense of self and inclusion go hand in hand, in finding a comfortable niche and guarded self image.
Field Project Presentation (8 minutes)
What strategies can bring inclusion to be on the home front?
"RELATIONSHIPS NEED TIME TO DEVELOP TRUST, IN ORDER TO ARTICULATE
AND UNDERSTAND DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES AND WAYS OF BEING TOGETHER,
AND THUS RELATIONSHIP-BUILDING (FRIENDSHIP) CHALLENGES COLONIAL AND
CAPITALIST MODELS OF ENGAGEMENT. RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN
COMMUNITIES, INSTITUTIONS, STUDENTS, EDUCATORS, ETC., AS WELL AS WITH
PLACE AND ALL THE THINGS THAT MAKE UP PLACE, ALSO REQUIRE TIME TO
BECOME ENTANGLED, A NECESSARY PROCESS IF WE ARE TO MOVE FORWARD
TOGETHER. "
In this lesson, there is a team building activity with a list of 10 ice breaker questions that bring in team connection and inclusion of individual's self.
Here are some STRATEGIES that bring inclusion into the classroom:
Teacher greet, gives a warm inviting welcome to all the students. Teacher stands at the door to let kids in every period.
Being consistently available and responsive to children. Be a teacher that attends extracurriculars outside of school hours.
A sense of membership and belonging. Teacher gives out specific students roles to students in her class. Teacher give special one on one time with students.
Recognizing and accepting individuals in your classroom. Teachers are embracing diversity.
I'm excited for the Summer and Fall, I'll be preparing at the new Rigby High School as the new Ceramics Art teacher. I decided to change my major and become a teacher. You may think why? I want children to have a love for art, to know they have an outlet, to be happy, see their gorgeous smiles, and know they're important.
