My broad question was "How can we, as educators, help children/adolescents supplement their social and emotional development intelligence?" I narrowed that question down in my field project to how can social experiences at school impact children? How do teachers, peers, and families affect that?
This subject means a lot to me because my teaching philosophy is very student-oriented. I want to build students up and help them succeed. This is what inspired me to investigate how positive or negative social relationships/interactions can impact a child's success.
Love
Respect
When a student misbehaves, I will not raise my voice or yell at them.
I will refrain from being sarcastic with my students.
Empathy
I will allow accommodations and exceptions for students based on special circumstances.
If a student comes to me with an issue (perhaps with another student), I will listen and offer advice.
Perseverance
Self-Belief
I will discourage students from putting one another down, and appropriately discipline them if they repeat this offense.
I will frequently encourage my students in all their pursuits to build their self-esteem, and ultimately have them believe in theirselves.
Steadfastness
I will be an example of steadfastness to my students by sharing my goals with them, as well as my progress in reaching those goals.
At the beginning of the year, I will ask my students to create an attainable goal for the classroom and provide updates every other week.
Open-Minded
Listening to Others
When I assign essays, I will require students to have two different students peer review their assignment.
If a student points out a mistake I made in class, I will thank the student for their observation and correct the error.
Progressing Professionally
I will attend seminars where experienced educators are speaking to learn more effective teaching techniques.
When administrators give me an evaluation on my classroom procedures and teaching methods, I will apply the corrections where appropriate.
Integrity
Honesty
I will always be honest with my students, even if the truth is hard to hear.
I will encourage my students in all their doing by creating an "honor code" of sorts when submitting assignments and assessments.
Giving Your Word
When I make a promise to an individual student or the whole class, I will honor that promise.
I will create a rubric for each assessment and grade accordingly, so that each student will receive a fair grade.
