Speaker Description: Carissa Flores is a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo and a certified instructor. She has been teaching self-defense for five years. She received her Gold Award in Girl Scouts for teaching 90 women and children self-defense hosted at Broomfield High School in 2016 and is honored to be back. Though she had always wished this was something that didn't have to be taught, she knows it is an important skill that must be.
Session Description: Just as important as it is to keep your minds engaged in women's issues so is it important to keep your bodies engaged. In this session, you will learn basic self-defense which will hopefully help you feel safer as a woman in our current society.

Session Description: Being an artist is a leap of faith, and so is this session! Learn about being a woman in the arts through this fun, hands-on, interactive visual arts endeavor. All supplies will be provided at the session, and you will find out what the surprise activity is the day of the conference. All art supplies will be furnished, playfulness will be had, and privacy will be respected.
Speaker Description: FRIENDS of Broomfield is an organization dedicated to making more spaces and opportunities available to individuals in the community with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They offer a few different programs and services, such as residential, day programs, and even employment and travel programs. FRIENDS of Broomfield will be providing a panel of ambassadors from the organization to talk about their experiences as an adult with an intellectual or developmental disability.
Session Description: During this session you will hear from a panel ambassadors of the FRIENDS organization, and learn about their experiences as adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Attendees will learn how a group of terrific ladies have faced the challenges of their disabilities and are now leading happy and productive lives. The ladies want to share how they continue to gain the confidence to be seen, heard and in charge of their own lives.
Kristy Duran - Unmasking Imposter Syndrome: Understanding and Overcoming Self-Doubt in the Workplace
Speaker Description: Kristy L. Duran is the Director of Undergraduate Research and a Professor of Biology at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She earned her B.S. in Biology from the University of New Mexico, her M.S. in Neurobiology from Colorado State University, and her Ph.D. in Evolutionary Ecology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is a Ford Foundation Fellow and is the President-Elect for the Senior Society of Ford Fellows. She is passionate about undergraduate research and issues around diversity, equity, and inclusion and has co-authored pieces in Scientific American Voices including “We are never just scientists” and “It’s time for science and academia to address sexual misconduct”. She currently serves on MSU Denver’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council and HSI Committee. She is committed to increasing research opportunities for students historically excluded due to ethnicity and race.
