He kai kei aku ringa
There is food at the end of my hands - make your own success
Work through the various tasks below, revisiting Gimp and Inkscape and hopefully developing your skill level further, as you might find these handy in various topics throughout the year.
The one task that has to be completed is Task 7 - the Website Header
Gimp is an open-source raster graphics editor used for Image manipulation is when images are enhanced, manipulated, altered or modified in a way that's pleasing to our eyes or to obtain a certain effect for certain reasons/goal objective we have in mind. Basically, it is anything that changes an image from its original state.
Green Screens are used as a visual-effects and post-production technique for layering two images or video streams together based on colour hues (chroma range). The technique has been used in many fields to remove a background from the subject of a photo or video – particularly the newscasting, motion picture, and video game industries.
It is a great skill to be able to create your own graphics.
Vector graphics are comprised of paths, which are defined by a start and end point, along with other points, curves, and angles along the way. A path can be a line, a square, a triangle, or a curvy shape.
Vector graphics provide high-quality, scalable images while conserving file size and bandwidth.
Vector graphics are unlike your raster graphics, JPEGs, GIFs, and BMP images, as these are made up of a grid of pixels.
The software you can use is either Inkscape (free) or Adobe Illustrator (paid licsenses).
Using Inkscape again to create a vector graphic.
This covers the Bezier Tool and using the Nodes tool to adjust. You can use the Bezier Tool to create paths made up of straight and curved lines. As a result, it is probably the most versatile tool and the hardest to master.
You can use these graphics in any sort of outcome you create including using the laser cutter.
Using Inkscape again to create a vector graphic.
This covers duplicating shapes and rotating to create patterns!
Then laser cut them to hang from our ceiling.
Using GIMP make some simple pixel art. These skills might come in handy with our game design topic.
Using Inkscape to make an awesome graphic which could be used on a BHS card eg Christmas, Birthday, Thanks, General.
Use Inkscape or Gimp to create a header for your website.
If you are creating a vector style graphic then use Inkscape, if you are using photos use Gimp.
Extra | Changing the Colour Pallet
Pallets are a powerful tool for making cohesive art projects. They can be configured in Inkscape and GIMP.
Download Pallets from https://lospec.com/palette-list
To submit images will need to be in .jpg or .png (good if you have a transparent background) formats.
To do this, make sure your 'working file' (inkscape .svg or gimp .xcf) is saved. Then export as one of the above formats.
At the end of this topic students will have had the opportunity to cover;
make decisions about creating, manipulating, storing, retrieving, sharing, and testing digital content for a specific purpose, given particular parameters, tools, and techniques PO2
understand that digital devices impact on humans and society and that both the devices and their impact change over time PO2
identify the specific role of components in a simple input-process-output system and how they work together, and they recognise the "control role” that humans have in the system PO2
select from an increasing range of applications and file types to develop outcomes for particular purposes PO2
follow a defined process to design, develop, store, test, and evaluate digital content to address given contexts or issues, taking into account immediate social, ethical, and end-user considerations PO3
identify the key features of selected software and choose the most appropriate software and file types to develop and combine digital content PO3
understand the role of operating systems in managing digital devices, security, and application software and are able to apply file management conventions using a range of storage devices PO3
understand that with storing data comes responsibility for ensuring security and privacy PO3
