You should be familiar with your H Drive.
Any work you do on a school computer that needs to be saved on the computer should be save in your H drive. This means you can access these files anywhere in the school and also at home. If you download images or other files they will be in your downloads and you either need to move the original (cut and paste as you can't drag and drop) or make sure when you open and save you save in your H drive.
Do a tidy up of your H Drive, open up file explorer, Windows + E is the shortcut
Create a 2025 folder and put all last years work in there (drag and drop)
Create your folders for 2026 e.g 10DGT
within each folder you should have sub folders. To start with in DT you should have:
Image Creation
make sure you place your files in the relevant folder
make sure you are naming your files appropriately to reflect what it it so you don't have a million 'untitled'
know where your work is (especially on your own device)
Now go and do the same thing in your Google Drive!!!
Good folder and file management should be seen on your H drive, google drive and your own computer. In DT you will mainly save in your H drive as everything else is via schoology. For other subjects you may only use your google drive and so you should have a structure in place.
HOT TIP: Use google drive to manage all your google suite files e.g docs, forms, sheets etc
Just like in Year 9, at the start of each lesson you'll do 5min of typing. A 5-minute typing warm-up at the start of each lesson is a small habit that pays off in a big way. Strong typing skills help you work faster, communicate more clearly, and keep your focus on the quality of your thinking rather than the effort of getting it onto the screen. It also supports assessment conditions where time matters, and it builds confidence for longer writing tasks across your subjects. Five minutes now saves you time all year, and makes your digital work feel a lot more fluent.
Join typing.com, log in using your google account. Your teacher will give you the class code.
In your browser if you can't see your bookmarks bar then CTRL+SHIFT+B to show it.
If you cannot see the BHS folder (has the link for Schoology) on the far left then you need to sync your account.
To do this:
click your little profile pic top right of the URL bar
Then click the Sync button
When the white box appears
Tick the box (this is not a major but opens your account in the current browser you have open rather then a new one)
click 'LINK DATA' and this will link your account info up.
Now bookmark the BHS DT Website by going back to our home page https://sites.google.com/burnside.school.nz/bhs-digital-technologies/junior/10dgt and clicking the star on the URL bar
If you had a 9DGT bookmark, you can right click on it and select delete.
If your internet is not working and you are connected to the network you may need to login to Linewize (sometimes you have logged in and the connection drops and you will need to do again)
