Hello my name is Michelle Hillard, and I am proud to be a new member of the Stebbins family. My desire to travel, sense of adventure and passion for education drew me to Stebbins. I feel blessed to be living and working in such warm and welcoming community.
Becoming a teacher has always seemed natural to me. Along with raising my 2 children, teaching has brought me many unique and wonderful opportunities. I’ve lived in Australia, North Dakota, and Washington. I have taught preschool, middle school students, and elementary. This will be my first year teaching 3rd graders but my 19th year in education.
I strive to create a safe, fun, engaging learning environment that encourages all of my students to believe in themselves and motivate them to become independent, lifelong learners. I attended Washington State University where I studied Anthropology and minored in Native American Studies. I earned my K-8 teaching credential at Eastern Washington University.
Some of my favorite activities are beading, knitting, cooking, yoga, and hiking. I look forward to exploring the great outdoors and learning more about Yup’ik culture.
I am from Stebbins, Alaska. I’m 18 years old, and I grew up here; I graduated from this school just last spring. After graduating I applied to work in laundry at the washeteria.
This school year, instead of being a student, I am working here as an aide. I like working with the children to help them learn and pass their grade.
I have an almost 1-year-old baby named Hazel Grace. When I’m not at work, I spend time with my baby or working around the house.
This year I look forward to seeing my students pass third grade.
