A couple of 3rd graders from Mrs. Richter’s class are becoming stars in the reading world. “The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant. Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.” Emily, Zainab, Evelyn, and Lily who are otherwise known as the fantastic four, are 3rd-grade students who have participated in OBOB this year. They made it all the way to regionals representing Raleigh Hills K-8, this year regionals were held at Edy Ridge elementary school in Sherwood, on March 7th. They defeated everyone in their path but sadly, Sato Elementary beat them and so they did not make it into the top 8. They all said they would definitely do OBOB again, and that they all enjoyed reading the books and being a part of a competition.

There was a Middle School dance for Raleigh Hills students on February 7th, 2020. We went to Mr. Jordan’s Math Intervention class, Mr. Lee’s Newspaper Advisory, Mrs. Kellogg’s Science class, and Mrs. Muskat Humanities class, and we interviewed 6th-8th graders on what they thought about the dance.
We asked their favorite part and this is what we got:
Ginger: “Santos!”
Joni: “Dancing with that special someone.”
Santos: “Everything”
Melanie: “Being able to have a good time with all my friends.”
Cole: “Friends.”
Arcadia: “Taking pictures.”
We asked if they danced with anyone, here was their responses:
Ginger: “I danced with Conner, Jake, Sam, Santos, Max, and an anonymous 6th grader.”
Joni: “Homies and a special someone”
Santos: “Ginger, my friends, and Joni.”
Melanie: “That’s too personal and too deep.”
Cole: “No.”
Arcadia: “Just friends.”
The last question was what they would rate the dance out of ten:
Ginger: “10, no 11, no 15, no 20”
Joni: “8”
Santos: “7.5”
Melanie: “Solid 8 out of 10.”
Cole: “10.”
Arcadia: “8”
