idea #1

One idea that i am quite keen on is a stripped cover of the song being performed by the musician. I came up with this idea after watching a performance of This is Gospel by Panic! At the Disco's Brendon Urie. It depicted Urie on a grand piano in a white backdrop as he performed the song. As it progressed it became more intense and paints and liquid began flying from above. That might be pushing it a bit, but I like the idea of a solo performance of the song without any extravagant additions.

The issues that we will have with filming this is access to a warehouse and as well as a piano.

idea #2

The second idea that the group came up with was a performance of the song (preferable a stripped cover) where Sirine would sing her song under a spotlight. She would be wearing a sequin dress that would sparkle and glisten while she would sing.

This idea is not too difficult as all it would require two or three takes of her singing the song while we change angles and get a multitude of different shot sizes. This would take maybe two hours and would not require anything strenuous or time consuming as we would already have everything at hand barring a sequin dress however wouldn't pose too much of an issue.

The only issue that may arise is that it's very similar to other ideas that some groups have already had also it is just her performing the song. So we run the risk of it being almost identical to another group and being somewhat boring which is a shame. I personally don't think it would be boring as the performance of the song should be captivating enough but with it being identical to another group I see little point in expanding it further.

idea #3

My final idea is to film a dancer as they perform a dance to the song in a rundown location, very similar to the music video for Chandelier by Sia. I really like the music video and I think with the right location and choreography it could complement our song very well.

In terms of issues that could arise while filming, the lcoation would be difficult to find and on top of that it would ahve to be a safe and secure location while still looking run down and abandoned. So that may raise some difficulty.

inspirations

Devil That I Know - Jacob Banks

The colour palette of this video scratches the right part of my brain. There's something so brilliant and beautiful about the darker blues and greens and the complete lack of warmth. It gives off the feel of brokenness and heartbreak which contrasts with the idea of a newly married couple. This idea of the happy newly weds is constantly battled against throughout the video.

This is Gospel - Panic! at the disco

I think the performance aspect of this is brilliant. The cinematography of the camera slowly creeping in and keeping tight to him then the sudden outburst of confetti and food and liquid shows just how the song is meant to make you feel. Explosive and sweet and fun and powerful while still having harder-hitting lines such as 'Cause these words are knives that often leave scars.'

Chandelier - Sia

This music video has pretty similar ties to what we are going for. The dancers will be in a house (whether furnished or not we aren't sure yet) and will be dancing along to a performance of it. This is probably the best example we can get of what we are trying to get across.

Strange - Celeste (late late show)

I included this as I think it's an incredible performance and was rather similar to an original idea that we had. We wanted our artist to perform the song in a dark room and have her being lit up by the a spotlight. There also would've been two dancers who would have been dancing along to the song.

Meeting one notes - Thursday 27/01/2022

Meeting one went alright. We were really just touching base on where we were in the preliminary production stages. We have a rough idea for the music video of Serine performing the music with a spotlight on her as two dancers are performing. The the vibes are very burlesque and we took a lot of inspiration from Celeste's performance of her original song 'strange' but the performance on the late late show with James Corden. Another inspiration is Lorde's video for Tennis Court. It's extreme simple and just her looking at the camera and saying some of the words as the track is playing however there is something quite pleasant about the simple style.

We are at a good position in having legs to stand on but we still have a long way to go the planning process. We are considering started pre-prod however there isn't much point until we can touch base with Sirine, however she is ill so it's catch-22 of we cant see her without an idea but we cant finalise an idea without touching base with her.

Meeting two notes - friday 28/01/2022

In terms of updates since the previous meeting. Connection has been made with Sirine and we have had discussions on what we could do with her. We would like her to be in the music video but the idea has changed a lot since the tv studio idea fell through.

At the moment we are thinking about trying to find an empty house which we could use that two dancers could dance in with frequent cutbacks to sirine performing the song. We would like her to perform a stripped version of the song that would only consist of her singing and the piano but it would depend on what she would like to do as at the end of the day it is her song.

We may try to ask a friend's dad (who is a property developer) if we can use one of the free houses.

Meeting three notes - Thursday 10/02/2022

Meeting three was a follow up on where everyone was within their own job roles...

Location was still being resolves, so what we decided on was emailing the musical theatre department and asking if we can use their hut. The Hut is essentially this large shed that would be perfect with some set dressing.

After a quick discussion there were still some pretty major gaps in pre-production which needed to be filled as soon as possible which was one instruction i did give the group.

We also discussed cinematography and what we can potentially do to get the best shots considering the simple nature of the video. We settled on a mix of steady cams and dolly shots.
