Brief

The first project of this year opens with a residential trip to Harrington House in Derbyshire. We all have been instructed to create a short film pitch with a script that one of which will be chosen. From there we will all apply for job roles ranging from producer to art director to marketing, and will create this film from day one of writing to the last day of editing.

- Better Angels -

My story followed two young men at a prestigious preparatory school who begin to finally discover who they truly are. Gideon, a shy first year at Foal's Court Prep meets Wallace, a boastful third year when they're paired together in dorms. Wallace introduced Gideon to a new world of partying, romance and freedom, but will Gideon be able to handle this new life?

The main inspirations for this short are films like Dead Poets Society, The Goldfinch and Kill Your Darlings. They all follow a dark academia aesthetic displaying the privileged upper class becoming more and more unhinged.

This scene I think is a perfect illustration of how I'd expect these two characters to act. Gideon is very much the Todd Anderson; quiet, reserved, awkward, not sure what to do with himself in a room full of people he doesn't know. While everyone else, especially Charlie, represents Wallace; calm, cocky, and laid back. If my script was to get chosen I would most certainly use these characters as a base model to further build upon the current models of Wallace and Gideon.
