Barling Magna Primary Academy invests a large portion of the Primary PE and Sport funding in working in partnership and collaboration with The Deanes through the Castle Point and Rochford School Sport Partnership to access a variety of services to benefit students and staff of the school.
This allows us to access a range of events and support in the following five areas: high quality physical education, school sports, health & wellbeing, infrastructure and physical activity. A full annual calendar of competitions, festivals and leagues, top-up swimming programmes and gifted and talented holiday camps are just a few of the options that we participate in.
In addition to our investment into the ‘Basic’ membership services provided through the School Sport Partnership, we have also bought further support through ‘Enhanced’ membership. This is a bespoke annual plan tailored to suit the specific needs of our school.
Enhanced SSP Membership
Over the academic year, selected children will participate in specific courses provided through the enhanced membership. Courses include: Flying Start & Beyond, Fit4Action, Personal Development, Bikeability and First Aid.
We also access additional provision to enhance our extra-curricular offer through weekly after school clubs e.g. Streetdance, Cross Country, Dodgeball and Football. Our intention is to monitor and change these throughout the year in order to ensure maximum participation and engagement along with seasonal considerations. In addition, we consider future sporting events and tailor clubs, both during and after school, in order for the children to practice specific skills.
In order to engage children in activity before school, we have included a Ready4School club which can be accessed alongside breakfast club.
From September 2022, we have employed a sports coach directly through the school in order to provide high-quality and consistent PE teaching for all children in our school. This will ensure that children make progress, are given the appropriate support and challenge through a consistent member of staff. There will be clear links between PE lessons and sporting events and children will be selected for sporting competitions and festivals by the sports coach.
