Elevating and Reflecting: How Ceramic Work Can Impact a Space
With this portfolio, I considered how art can impact the feeling that a room gives off, in addition to looking at how art can provide functionality to contribute to purpose of a room. My portfolio is two-pronged, combining both functional and design elements into my pieces. Because these pieces are also being created for my family’s home, I wanted to try to add personal aspects when possible, while still maintaining a sophisticated look. For some pieces, I really had to consider how the piece itself would fit into the envisioned space and how I could make it meaningful enough to merit a place in the room. I worked with the design, colors, and styles already implemented into the spaces to have my pieces best complement them. At the same time, I wanted to add unique touches that showed the handmade and personal element to my work.
This portfolio is dedicated to my parents, as I head off for college in the fall. With a newly built home to start their life off as empty nesters, my goal was to bring my own taste into their home, while maintaining the style of design they have chosen. These pieces, which will be placed throughout the house, will serve as reminders of my gratitude and love for the both of them.
