How can I use a wide variety of materials and processes to create pieces that push the viewer to consider the deeper stories, mysteries, and reflections of identity under the surface?
I wanted to cross themes that were important to me as a kid with themes that are important to me now to create a comprehensive look at how I tell and interact with stories. The characters I create and the worlds they inhabit are important to every facet of my identity in every way, from what I think looks pretty to how I view religion. My art reflects what I find important as well as who I am intrinsically.
In this portfolio, I tell stories that go past the surface of the characters you see. I have also become more and more interested in reflecting my own identity and the world around me in the worlds I create. In many of my pieces, I explore gender, sexuality, and religious identities. I hope to push my own understanding of how I view myself in doing so.
I want my pieces and characters to resonate with the people viewing them. As part of creating a story that goes past the surface of the drawing, I want to create a sense of mystery, but also of potential and reflection for anyone viewing them.
