Welcome to BTEC Business Studies!

Over the next two years you will be developing a deep understanding of the many aspects involved in business operations. This course is incredibly dynamic and you will be assessed in a variety of different ways including; reports, groupwork, presentations, exams and practical project work.

To help you make the best possible start to Y12 in September, complete the transition tasks and bring these with you to your first lessons.

Key Features of Business:

Conduct research into two contrasting businesses – one should be a charity and one should be a large organisation, such as Nike, for each business find out the following:

1. Where do they operate, in how many countries, list some examples?

2. How many employees do they have?

3. What is their main purpose?

4. What sector of industry do they operate in? Primary, Secondary or Tertiary?

5. What form of ownership do they have?

6. What type of liability does each business each?

You will need to research some key terms before you conduct the research:

• Primary, Secondary and Tertiary sectors

• Liability in terms of business and debts
