Visual Artist

The Artist has a lot of important roles to play.

The team is going to require:

  • An understanding of the environment you touch down in. What can be seen? A painting or a sketch is much more evocative than an iPhone photo.

  • An understanding of the life forms you meet, both flora and fauna. Ensure that you talk to any scientists in your group so your representations are true to life

  • Have you met any buildings or non-natural structures? What do they look like? Again, ensure that you talk to any scientists in your group so your representations are accurate.

How do you achieve this?

  • Well, that is up to you. You can paint, draw, or use any other artistic method you choose. We will do our best to supply your preferred medium - but remember, you are supposed to be on a spaceship - some things will be limited!

Any last advice from subject specialists back on earth?

Mrs Williams writes "(make sure you are) using the formal elements of Art: texture/tone/colour/shape and form/pattern/line to make sense of your surroundings. Evoking the experience through an exploration of one or more of those can then extend the artist's role beyond the notion of just recording through drawing. "

I am sure there are lots of other things that I have not mentioned. As Chief Artist, it is your job to ensure that you can advise on all things related to Visual Arts.

I am sure you will choose to create something physical. Please ensure that you take photos of your artefacts and ensure that they are submitted as part of the final presentation.
