This media studies unit focuses on two films: the first ever episode of Doctor Who (An Unearthly Child) and an episode from the 2020 series His Dark Materials (City Of Magpies). Students will answer questions on this topic on Media Studies Paper 2.
In this unit, students will:
make an in-depth analysis of both Close Study Products in terms of Media Language, Representations, Industries, and Audiences
explores the historical and social contexts of their production and reception
examine elements like technical codes, narrative, and character representation
discuss the evolution of the television industry and audience expectations, contrasting the BBC of the 1960s with the contemporary media landscape and considering the marketing and reception of His Dark Materials.
