This media studies unit focuses on two newspapers: The Daily Mirror and The Times. Students will answer questions on this topic on Media Studies Papers 1 and 2.
In this unit, students will:
explore the role of newspapers in modern society, focusing on ownership, ideology, and their function as a public watchdog
analyse the UK press landscape, highlighting the concentration of ownership and its potential impact
consider the impact of media convergence and the business challenges facing the newspaper industry
examine how these two specific newspapers, The Daily Mirror and The Times, use media language and representations to cover the same news stories in ways that reflect their differing ideologies and appeal to different target audiences
