John Frey, High School Volunteer

I am a graduate of Carlisle High School in 1997.  I lettered in Football as an offensive lineman.  I played three years of semi-pro football for the Cumberland Valley Hitmen.  After those three years I became the teams head coach for one year before stepping down to become the offensive line coach.  I have been a head coach and offensive coordinator for the Shippensburg Midget Program as well as the Carlisle Area Midget Football league.  This game has given me so much, and taught me even more about life.  It is my time to give back.  Vince Lombardi said, "The only place that success comes before work is in the dictionary."

Jesse Burnhisel, High School Volunteer

I graduated from Big Spring in 2022.  I played both football and basketball during my high school career. I wanted to come back to coach to stay a part of a great program and continue to help out at Big Spring.

Austin Long, High School Volunteer

I graduated from Big Spring in 2021.  I lettered in varsity football 3 of my 4 years at Big Spring. I started the majority of my games on the defensive side of the ball outside linebacker and defensive end.  Then my senior year I picked up tight end offensively.  After graduation I went to play college football at Grove City College for a year and ultimately decided to transfer.  I decided to come back to coach at Big Spring because I genuinely love the game of football and enjoy teaching others the same game that I was taught coming up through the program over the years.

Grant Long

I graduated from Big Spring in 2021.  I lettered in football 3 out of my 4 years playing varsity football.  I started at safety since my sophomore year and had a lot of fun.  I went on to play college football for a year, but I ended up transferring home and helping to coach.  I came back to coach because I enjoy the game and want to help others as much as I can.

Shane Cohick, Middle School Coach

I graduated from Big Spring in 1979.  I played four sports in High School and lettered in all four, Football, Wrestling, Track, and Baseball.  In 2005 I began coaching Big Spring Middle School Football as a volunteer.  I stayed a part of the MS Football program and presently am still on the MS coaching staff.  I have been a paid coach for the past 8-10 years.  I coach the offensive and defensive backs.  I enjoy working with the MS age players where we still coach many fundamentals of the sport.  I find that the players at this age are still willing to pay attention and learn.  I am in my 31st year as a police officer with my profession.  It's a great opportunity for me to work with players of this age group.

Nate Gutshall, Middle School Assistant

Coach Gutshall has been coaching wrestling at Big Spring Wrestling for 20 years as assistant at the junior high and high school levels and the head coach for 8 years. Under his direction the Bulldogs have had 11 state qualifiers including 4 place winners. They have also won three Colonial Division Championships. Coach Gutshall teaches Government and Law at Big Spring High School. He lives in Newville with his wife Carrie and children Leah, Molly, Kate, and Jack.
