Meet the Coaches

Jesse Bortner, Head Coach

Through the eyes of a coach, our practice is to develop men of sound character through love, commitment, and accountability. This can only be accomplished through a person first, student second, and player third mentality. The fundamentals of life can be taught through baseball and it is our job to use the coaching platform to teach the tenets of a successful life as they manifest in various components of the game. We feel that teaching the following characteristics are essential to our team and each players’ success, both on and off the field - Be Insatiable, Be Resilient, Be Altruistic.

Ryan Kelley, Assistant Coach

I am very proud to be a teacher and a coach in the Big Spring School District. As a graduate of Big Spring, this school has positively impacted me throughout my life and I am pleased to be able to have a positive impact on the next generation of Big Spring graduates. I have been teaching 8th grade math at the middle school since 2012. I began coaching with the baseball program in 2016 as the JV Assistant Coach and in 2018 accepted my current position of JV Head Coach. Previously, I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Shippensburg University and acquired two years of experience coaching 7th grade girls’ basketball.

Coaching provides me the opportunity to share my love for baseball with the student athletes. It is my primary goal to help develop these young men into high character individuals who represent the community well. As a team, we focus on fundamental skill development with the players to help them continuously grow into better ballplayers. Emphasis is placed on always striving to improve, working through adversity, and having fun playing the game. Seeing the players’ grow and mature as individuals and athletes makes coaching a very rewarding experience.
