Making learning visible and fun!
Throughout the entire video creation process, students are engaged in creativity. Video creation encourages students to share their understanding and demonstrate their learning as they develop key skills like collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity.
The SAMR model, developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura (see more here), reminds us to think about ways to use technology to redefine tasks and add functions that could not be done without the technology, rather than substitutions all the time. Below are some ways WeVideo can be used at each stage of the SAMR Model.
Here is an example of how WeVideo might work within the SAMR Framework:
Substitution: Students create video of their presentations rather than present in front of the class.
Augmentation: Students enhance video recordings by adding in sound effects, background music, primary source audio, and other audio files.
Modification: Students engage in advanced video editing techniques to create podcasts or other audio recordings to share with a public audience.
Redefinition: Students remix historical recordings (or creative commons/copyright-free video files) with new video to generate creative mix, or use green screen to further redefine video.
