What if positive change was only one design away? With Canva, you and your team can design anything to achieve your goals. Hear real community and business stories from all corners of the world, and what inspires them to design with Canva.
Canva is a popular program for creating professional-grade graphic designs and other creativity projects, but to make the most of it, you used to need the Pro version. Luckily last year Canva released Canva for Education, which is completely free for educators and students, includes 1000s of pre-created education templates, allows you to create individual and collaborative assignments, and syncs with Learning Management Systems. Learn what it's all about in this week's education technology tutorial!

Canva can be used in all content areas as a way to have students show what they know and might help to build the following digital learning competencies, as described in BSD's Technology Scope & Sequence.
Students can use Canva to create videos in order to demonstrate their learning; this works great to explain their conducted research, summarize a current event or book they have completed reading, as well as communicate different viewpoints. Think about allowing students to explore documentaries, video book reports and book trailers, PSA's, and more.
Utilize graphic design principles to create digital content such as posters, flyers, webpages, and/or infographics that make data driven arguments and communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
Teachers can use this tool to create content for students, create icons and banners for presenting to students or use in Canvas.
This tool is a part of a suite of tools that can be used to help in Universal Design, Informational Design, as well as thinking about accessibility for all students.

Digital Framework Connections:
The SAMR model, developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura (see more here), reminds us to think about ways to use technology to redefine tasks and add functions that could not be done without the technology, rather than substitutions all the time. Below are some ways Canva can be used at each stage of the SAMR Model.
Substitution: Students use Canva in place of traditional storytelling techniques.
Augmentation: Videos, graphics, and multimedia posts enrich storytelling methods.
Modification: Stories made with Canva can be easily shared digitally online.
Redefinition: Express allows enhanced customization and sharing with interested readers.
